Swine Flu: Get the shot...or NOT!
Every day on the news there is another story about the swine flu :
“The scramble for the swine flu vaccine is on!”
“Will the vaccine get here in time?
”Many are already coming down with the flu!”
“This will be a pandemic!”
“People are dying!”
“We may have to make the shot mandatory”
“Will there be enough??!”
“Be afraid…be very afraid!“ OK I just added this one myself…but essentially that is what I feel the media is doing to us, and frankly I am tired of what I am seeing and hearing.
In my opinion, getting the vaccine should be everyone’s choice…but an educated choice made with more information, not just based on fear.
Some important questions need to be asked.
For example, Is the vaccine safe?
We seem to have forgotten what happened in the 70’s during the last swine flu epidemic. In the long run, the vaccine killed more people than the flu - many were paralyzed or otherwise injured. (you may remember Guillian-Barre syndrome) So many people were hurt that the program was stopped after about 2 months. The swine flu scare of 1976 has been called the “greatest public-health fiasco in the history of the US.” By Thomas Stone, MD.
The current vaccine has been released before research was completed and laws are being broken supposedly to get it out there faster for the public good. In fact just last week in Washington state they temporarily suspended a law that limits the amount of mercury (thimerosal) in the vaccine that will be targeted for pregnant women and children under the age of three. That means that these vaccines will have even higher than the already dangerous amounts of mercury – but hey that’s the chance you take to save lives. When asked questions about the fact that vaccines have been linked to autism and other problems we hear the typical, “there is no evidence that there is any link to any of these problems and the vaccine is safe”. Not to worry.
In some states they have tried to pass laws to make the vaccine mandatory. No choice.
I apologize for my sarcasm but this is madness.
Especially when the Center For Disease Control and the Department of Health state that so far hospitalizations, incidence, and severity of the swine flu has been about the same or even less than the regular seasonal flu. We are being bombarded with messages that make us feel afraid and powerless if we are not one of the “lucky” ones to be able to get the vaccine.
So why the continued panic??
I don’t mean to take lightly the seriousness of the illness for some folks, and any death is a tragedy. But so is injury from the vaccine. And the potential loss of our right to choose.
I encourage all of you to stop and think. You are not powerless. Your body has an innate healing power that keeps you alive every day. There are many things you can do to help keep yourself and your family healthy and your immunity strong so that if you do “come down” with the flu you will fight it successfully. Your body will produce immunity to the flu that will protect you in the future better than any vaccine can.
Make an educated choice! I invite you to join me on Tuesday November 3rd, 7:30 to 9pm, for a workshop where I will provide you with the current information as noted by the Center for Disease Control, and we will talk about all the information that you are NOT hearing from traditional sources. There will be plenty of time for questions.
So on November 3rd first vote (it’s election day), and then join me! The workshop is being provided as a community service. Please invite your friends and family. This will be a lively discussion!

Dr. Burger authors story in new book!
Thank God I…Stories of Inspiration for Every Situation
Dr. Burger authored a story in the first book of a new series “Thank God I...Stories of Inspiration for Every Situation”.
Can you become grateful for whatever life throws you? This book is full of stories where people not only transcended tragedies, but actually learned from them and now in retrospect, wouldn’t change a thing. They found a greater self waiting on the other side of pain.
Death, dysfunction, and divorce abound, among other challenges – and yet the authors, people like you and me – triumphed. Through dark times, there is hope, and healing.
“Thank God My Best Friend Died” is Dr. Burger’s contribution to the book. To read her story and the 65 other inspirational stories, pick up a copy at our office for $20 (plus $4 shipping if you would like it mailed). www.thankgodI.com (215) 736-3803 peacedoc_1@msn.com
